Character Name: Akira Kurusu
Species: Human
Canon: Persona 5 Strikers
Canon Point: Post-canon; it's left vague whether Strikers is a sequel of only Persona 5 or is also a sequel of Persona 5 Royal as well, but for this canon point I'll be playing him as if it's the former
Character Age: 17
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: n/a
Character Appearance: Persona 5 Strikers concept art and Phantom Thief concept art
Powers and Abilities:
Persona: Throughout the Persona series (that for the most part isn't connected outside of being years apart in mostly the same universe), Personas themselves are generally beings that are a person's personality and feelings given form, but each one manifests a little bit differently throughout the games. In Persona 5/Royal, Personas users harness the painful feelings of being taken advantage of, or of others or themselves being wronged, and rebel against it - that form is their "rebellious heart", so to speak. Akira is a unique Persona user because he's a "Wild Card", capable of using multiple Personas (unlike most, who are only capable of using one). However this ability is usually only capable of being used in the Metaverse, the cognitive world that is projected onto the real world and can be visited through the use of a special app that Akira and the rest of his group have on their cell phones. If he does regain his powers, I'd prefer for him to only have Arsène, whose page I've linked and whose skills I'll briefly list below:
Eiha: Light Curse damage to an area of foes.
Cleave: Light Physical damage to a narrow range with medium chance of Critical. (injures himself slightly to use)
Tarunda: Temporarily decrease attack for an area of foes.
Dream Needle: Light Physical damage to a narrow range. Medium chance of Sleep. (injures himself slightly to use)
Rebel Soul: Improves rate for increasing Showtime Gauge.
Maeiga: Medium Curse damage to a wide area of foes.
One-shot Kill: Severe Gun damage to an area of foes with very high chance of Critical. (injures himself considerably to use)
Maeigaon: Heavy Curse damage to a wide area of foes.
Survival Trick: Survive one insta-death attack with 1 HP remaining.
Riot Gun: Severe Gun damage to a wide area of foes with very high chance of Critical. (injures himself considerably to use)
Third Eye: An ability received from Igor, this allows Akira to scan the area around him for things that are out of place. It gives a glow to things that are of notice, such as searchable objects, gaps that can be jumped across, dangerous or interactable areas (pitfalls for the former or vent openings for the latter), or how dangerous an enemy may be. It also seems to have an effect on certain activities, such as slowing down shots in baseball for better timed hits, indicating different breeds of fish with one of the aforementioned glows, or improving accuracy while playing darts.
What Did Your Character Wish For? To see the person he failed one more time.
What Potion Did They Receive? Golden Potion
Did They Drink It? No
If Yes, What Element/Animal? n/a
Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most? Akira would probably be most bonded to Morgana, the second of the then-future Phantom Thieves that Akira ever met, and the one that would (almost) always be at his side from that time onwards. Morgana has served as a mentor to him and the rest of the Phantom Thieves since the time Akira met him; he's not only the one that teaches Akira about the Metaverse, but also the one responsible for directing that energy of "wanting to make a difference" into the formation of the Phantom Thieves themselves. From that point on, Morgana also serves as a stabilizing presence in Akira's life; telling him to rest instead of continuing to charge forward, or gently nudging him in a direction when it seems like he needs it. The time that Akira's without Morgana at his side is the most lost he is in the course of Striker's prequel game, and it doesn't go away until they're reunited. To Akira, Morgana is irreplaceable in so many ways, but perhaps the most critical is in the way that he's a guiding light.
2. What are they most afraid of? Though it's a quote from Tactica and not Strikers itself, Akira states that what he's most afraid of is running away from a fight, even more than the actual fight itself. He can handle being in danger, and he can handle being hurt, but the one thing he can't stand is failing people that are depending on him. It can even be seen early on in Persona 5 itself; the easiest option for many people would be to not get involved in someone else's altercation, but for Akira, looking away from someone in trouble is next to impossible.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically? Emotionally, Akira has the most difficulty with being vulnerable around other people. It's easy for him to put on a mask and be what people need him to be, but it's far harder for him to share his true thoughts and feelings with others. Even with the people he's been able to trust and grow close to, he'll be much more likely to show a brave face than to actually admit to anything that may be bothering him.
His mental weakness would probably be that while he's very observant about people and their habits, Akira has a tendency to miss what's right in front of him. He does tend to be a more detail-oriented person when it comes to scheduling and work, but issues he struggles with the most are those of a more interpersonal nature (notable examples of these would be missing how Morgana is bothered right before the Hawaii trip, or looking the other way from any doubts he might've had about Igor). It seems contradictory when he's also a person that spends a lot of time listening to others and being very observant of them, but enough details can distract him from something that's about to become a big problem.
As for his physical weakness, this would probably be his stamina. This has improved very much since becoming a Phantom Thief and training his body more, but it's still the easiest way to wear him down in a fight. No matter how many dazzling jumps or theatric twirls he's capable of, Akira is still only human, and those reserves of energy will only last him for so long.
4. What would make them happiest? To live in Tokyo with all of the people that have become important to him - not just the Phantom Thieves, though they're easily who cares about most, but all of the people that he's forged bonds with. To stay at Leblanc with Sojiro in particular is a deeply set wish in his heart, though he still returns home when the time comes (whether it's out of obligation or a lingering affection for his home is never made clear).
5. What do you want out of your character in this setting? I'd like to not set anything in stone too much, especially with a setting like this that has so much to explore, but I do have two things in mind that I'd like to aim for going into this. For the first, I want to throw Akira into a situation where he has to survive without his powers for some time until I have him regain them, right after a period that he's become very dependent on them (for a second time) in canon. And for the second, I'd like for him to confront what his wish means - that grief hasn't held his life at a standstill, and that he's even enjoyed himself in spite of it... but that it still very much lingers within his heart.
